“Remission,” Lupe’s track that features Hudson and Common, was dreamt up as a way to promote the biennial fundraising telecast Stand Up to Cancer, a program organized by the Entertainment Industry Foundation that raises money for cancer research.
The trio, who will be performing “Remission” at the charitable event, swap verses in the uplifting song about beating the odds.
“If I had a dollar / For every time they counted me out / And my back was up against the wall / I could have died but I came out fighting,” Hudson belts at the chorus, keeping her lyrics vague enough to apply to a variety of situations.
Listen to the song, which contains strong language, here.
