Pharrell Talks Music inspiration for Despicable Me 2

Pharrell is back on the soundtrack for Despicable Me 2. He teamed up with composer Heitor Pereira in 2010 for the first film’s soundtrack and returned to collab with Pereira to oversee the project’s sequel.
The soundtrack’s single “happyy” dropped Tuesday (June 18), hinting at the new overarching theme of the movie.
Pharrell compares the Different overarching theme from the first Despicable Me and the the sequel in a recent press conference

“My contribution to the first film, the songs came from different things the characters said, or like their behavior and things that they would do,” Williams told us. “This time I just chose a different approach. I was like, I’m gonna go with the overarching theme.”
